Couchbase Launches 'JSON Anywhere' Mobile Strategy; Becomes First Vendor to Offer a Native NoSQL Database for Mobile Devices Together with Easy Sync

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) London, UK - - Couchbase, a leader in NoSQL database technology and the company behind the Couchbase open source project, today unveiled its breakthrough mobile strategy, JSON Anywhere, the first and only NoSQL offering specifically designed to meet the data management needs of the booming mobile application market. Couchbase also announced three new products associated with its strategy; Couchbase Lite, Couchbase Sync Gateway, and Couchbase Cloud. The company will announce its mobile strategy and new products at Couchbase [SF], its annual user conference.

The Couchbase JSON Anywhere strategy is targeted at mobile application developers that want to create highly responsive, data-centric applications that are always-available regardless of network connectivity. JSON Anywhere means: JSON on the device, JSON on the wire, and JSON in the cloud. Data stored in Couchbase Lite on a mobile device is seamlessly synchronized with the Couchbase Server in the cloud, enabling the simple development of a new class of occasionally connected, data intensive mobile applications.

Couchbase Lite is a secure, ultra-lightweight, native JSON-based NoSQL database built for the online/offline mobile world. It is the first native NoSQL database for mobile devices, providing native cross-platform support for iOS, Android and REST/HTML5.

Couchbase Sync Gateway enables easy, reliable data sync to the cloud. Built on a shared nothing architecture, the Couchbase Sync Gateway provides the extremely high scalability required by mobile applications and solves complex distributed data synchronization, including conflict resolution.

Couchbase Cloud provides a new developer "sandbox" service for mobile developers to instantly access the Couchbase server with no installation or hosting requirements and is available immediately for developer use.

Beta Community Edition releases of Couchbase Lite and Couchbase Sync Gateway are available for immediate download. Couchbase Cloud is available for immediate use.

The company's industry-leading NoSQL database, Couchbase Server, now offers multiple back-end deployment options combined with the Couchbase Sync Gateway - Private Cloud, Hosted, or Couchbase Cloud DaaS for mobile developers.

Supporting Quotes Couchbase on JSON Anywhere: "An explosive combination of the growth in the number of devices together with increasingly powerful device hardware footprints, in terms of cores and memory, opens up the potential for a new class of data intensive and device local applications. Couchbase has taken the leadership in providing the first JSON-based native NoSQL database for mobile that will power these applications," said Couchbase SVP of Products Rahim Yaseen. "Our JSON Anywhere strategy is about JSON on the device, JSON on the wire and JSON in the cloud -- with easy sync across devices and users." Couchbase on Easy Sync: "Developing reliable syncing technology is notoriously difficult and extremely time consuming," said Couchbase CEO Bob Wiederhold. "Couchbase Sync Gateway provides developers with an easy way to add reliable syncing to their applications in one-tenth the time." Couchbase Customer Infinite Campus: Infinite Campus is the largest American-owned student information system provider, managing more than 6 million students in 43 states. Customers range from those with fewer than 100 students to those with more than 600,000 students, and include school districts, regional consortia, state departments of education and the federal government.

"More and more students are using mobile devices as the primary way to access course material and collaborate with other students," said Mike Lamb, Principal Software Engineer, Infinite Campus. "We needed to provide an educational experience as engaging as the popular apps students love to use every day. The ability to work online/offline and seamlessly sync across devices and between users was critical to delivering the experience they need for both in the classroom, and off campus. We investigated the market for an ultra-lightweight NoSQL mobile database with easy sync and Couchbase was the only choice."
