Aug 01, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Marvell announced that Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 is powered by the Marvell Armada Mobile PXA986 platform, delivering high-performance computing with graphics capabilities and connectivity.

Featured in the 3G and Wi-Fi versions of the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 tablet, Marvell said the PXA986 supports multimedia capabilities and brings universal connectivity and low-cost processing power to mobile devices across the globe. The Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 currently is available in retail stores throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia.

"I am very proud to see the successful worldwide launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 tablet to the mass market. I believe that in the new era of the 'Connected Lifestyle,' it is very important for such affordable mobile devices to deliver the outstanding performance that is able to enrich people's lives, education and communication," said Weili Dai, President and Co-founder of Marvell. "I am very thankful for Samsung and Marvell's global teams of talented engineers for their hard work, collaboration, innovation and dedication to move the industry forward faster." According to a release, the Armada Mobile PXA986 is a mass market, single-chip solution that integrates a high-performance, low-power 1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 application processor with cellular modems to support multimedia and graphics capabilities consumers demand for their mobile devices. The PXA986 also features an multimode HSPA+ modem supporting Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) and 2G networks, 21.1 Mbps downlink data-rate and 5.76 Mbps uplink data-rate, and critical features such as DSDS. Marvell's unified mobile platform, including the PXA986, PXA988 and PXA1088, provides a pin-compatible single-chip 3G SoC, thus enabling migration from dual-core to quad-core solutions.

In addition to the PXA986 platform, the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 also leverages Marvell's latest wireless connectivity technology (Wi-Fi + Bluetooth), RF transceivers and integrated power management and audio codec solutions.

Marvell is a company focusing on providing complete silicon solutions enabling the digital connected lifestyle.
