Telecommunications provider BIN uses KEYMILE technology for high-speed Internet in rural areas

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Hanover -- Telecommunications company Breitband Innovationen Nord (BIN) from Ottersberg, North Germany, has chosen KEYMILEs multi-service access platform MileGate to set up its broadband network. As a result, customers in areas already connected can benefit from modern VDSL2 lines. New housing developments and an industrial park will receive optical fibre to the building. Similarly to other towns and villages, the Ottersberg electricity plant in Lower Saxony, has its own communications network. As the large telecommunications companies didn't believe network expansion and in particular optical fibre in rural areas were cost-effective options, the Ottersberg district founded telecommunications provider Breitband Innovationen Nord (BIN) GmbH. BIN operates the network which it has leased from the districts own electricity plant.

BINs goal is to set up advanced telecommunications infrastructure in the rural area surrounding Ottersberg. KEYMILEs multi-service access platform MileGate plays a pivotal role in these plans. KEYMILE is a leading supplier of cutting-edge technology for communications solutions in access and transmission systems.

MileGate offers a wide range of functions in a compact chassis. Network operators can provide up to 448 ADSL2plus, 336 VDSL2 and 168 FTTH customer lines per subrack MileGate 2310. MileGate is designed for areas where space is at a premium, for example in street cabinets or in plant rooms in buildings. Thanks to its robust design, the access platform is ideal for use in tough conditions outdoors.

MileGate 2310 is designed as a medium-sized connection point in FTTx network architectures in order to extend existing networks for example. In some Ottersberg communities, BIN plans to "build over existing street cabinets in order to implement fast VDSL connections. Several new housing developments and an industrial park will also be connected by optical fibre to FTTH architecture, allowing greater bandwidths. In one place in the district called Otterstedt, the majority of the households were prepared to share some of the costs for connection to the broadband infrastructure.

In the first year of the contract when the households are connected, this cost-sharing model will be offset against the costs for the telecommunications connection. The set-up costs will also not apply to these households. All new housing developments and an industrial park in Ottersberg will have FTTH. Management consultancy Wobesco from Ottersberg is supporting regional network operator BIN and the electricity plant in the concept development, planning and implementation of the broadband infrastructure.

"We were impressed by the quality KEYMILE products offered from the outset. Were also benefiting from the fact that the KEYMILE system provides copper and optical fibre lines simultaneously. This reduces the complexity in our network and makes implementation easier. Our expectations regarding service and support have also to date been fully met, comments Carsten Haverkamp, CEO of BIN in Ottersberg. "In this case its been worthwhile choosing a partner who can flexibly implement the specific requirements our technical network infrastructure produces. Since the initial meetings and the tender, KEYMILE has scored top marks for the way it has looked after us at all levels.
