Future of I.T. Infrastructure Discussed by Industry Experts at Cloud 2020 Summit Hosted at Switch SUPERNAP in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS --(Business Wire)--

More than 60 industry experts gathered May 9 at the Switch SUPERNAP in Las Vegas for the Cloud 2020 Summit to discuss the challenges I.T. infrastructure and cloud computing will face in 2020 and beyond.

Organized by analyst firms Rishidot Research and Diversity Limited, the summit joined vendors, enterprise buyers, service providers and others to address the massive shift in the I.T. landscape in recent years-accelerated by the cloud, mobility, sensors and ever-increasing data-and where infrastructure services are heading.

The summit was hosted by Switch, the developer of the renowned Switch SUPERNAPS, the largest, best designed technology ecosystem in the world.

The Switch SUPERNAPS provide unrivaled colocation, connectivity, cloud and content ecosystems, and represent innovation, security and reliability for more than 600 global clients, from passionate startups to Fortune 100 powerhouses.

Featuring a combination of keynote speakers and panel discussions, the summit covered topics ranging from data center design, efficiency and sustainability in 2020, to cloud stacks and operating systems of the future.

In his keynote on the data center of 2020, Mark Thiele, Switch executive vice president of Data Center Technologies, discussed the critical role design plays in data center efficiency and sustainability.

"The data center as an extension of the ability to deliver I.T. services is also part of the greater system that is your I.T.," said Thiele. "All your measures for operating model performance, for delivering manageable capacity and for sustainable cost-effective operations will be determined to a large extent by the quality and capability of your data center strategy. The pressure of rapidly changing business models combined with increased demand for I.T. solutions will have a much more dramatic effect on your data center decisions in 2020 than they do even today."

Programmable infrastructure, the future of hyperscale data centers and cloud economics, were also among the topics covered.

In the panel discussion on programmable infrastructure, Randy Bias, CTO of Cloudscaling, expressed that the cloud provider scene in 2020 would likely feature a duopoly of Amazon and Google (News - Alert). "Their existing scale, ecosystems and mindshare mean they will continue to be the dominant cloud forces in the year 2020," Bias contended.
