Twisted Pair Extends Kenwood NEXEDGE to Smartphones and Tablets with Direct IP Interface

Twisted Pair Solutions (News - Alert), a recognized leader in critical communication solutions for secure, real-time communication anywhere, on any device, today announced that it will partner with Kenwood to enable direct IP communication between Kenwood NEXEDGE radio systems and WAVE (News - Alert)® software, with expected rollout in the Fall of 2013. Users of Kenwood NEXEDGE systems will no longer be required to use donor radios to extend their NEXEDGE voice communications to PCs, and smartphones, or for connectivity with other LMR systems supported by WAVE, allowing NEXEDGE deployments to be more scalable, efficient and cost-effective.

In compliance with the NXDN protocol, WAVE seamlessly connects Kenwood NEXEDGE portables and mobiles to the full suite of WAVE applications. The IP interface delivers digital voice and data over a single IP link into the NEXEDGE system so that WAVE can access subscriber unit IDs, support alarm messages including man down, capture GPS coordinates, send and receive text messages and status messages and provide status and presence.

The NEXEDGE digital radio brand from Kenwood uses the NXDN Common Air Interface, which was developed in response to the need or greater spectrum efficiency. It was designed, in particular, for the business and industry market as a cost-effective communication method that achieves spectrum efficiency through digitization, while maintaining the basic architecture of analog FM radio. Twisted Pair's native support for the NXDN interface means that WAVE customers may now incorporate a mix of legacy investments and new mobile devices with powerful NEXEDGE two-way radios, further supporting customer resourcefulness as it pertains to overhead costs and spectrum use.

With WAVE, NEXEDGE radio systems can be connected to other communication systems and networks, quickly and securely using IP as the common transport medium. This allows multiple radio systems to seamlessly connect and removes the geographic and frequency barriers that traditionally impact reach.
