Comcast Reports Renewal of Platinum-level Commitment to Internet Society

Mar 14, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- For the sixth consecutive year, Comcast has renewed its commitment to the Internet Society as a Platinum Organization Supporter, providing the highest level of support to the organization and its work to promote the open development, evolution, and use of the Internet for people throughout the world.

Comcast is also a co-sponsor of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) meeting, IETF 86, in Orlando, Florida, March 10-15. This is the second consecutive IETF meeting co-hosted by Comcast. IETF 86 will bring together more than 1,000 engineers, computer scientists, and researchers from around the world who lead the development of Internet standards. The Internet Society is the organizational home of the IETF, the primary body responsible for the Internet's core standards and protocols.

"We are pleased to co-host our second IETF meeting in a row and third meeting since 2008, as well as continue our Platinum level sponsorship of the Internet Society," said Jason Livingood, Comcast's Vice President of Internet & Communications Engineering. "Successful Internet governance and Internet standards need to continue to be open and consensus-based, and I hope our strong support for the IETF and Internet Society will ensure the continued success of this model." The Internet Society is a worldwide network of 65,000 Members, 91 Chapters, and more than 145 Organization Members. Its mission is to promote a global, open, and accessible Internet for everyone, with a focus on the areas of technology, public policy, development, and education. Organization Members include corporations, nonprofits, trade and professional organizations, foundations, educational institutions, government agencies, and other national and international organizations that share the Internet Society's commitment to an open and accessible Internet, and the continuation of a multi-stakeholder model of Internet governance.
