The two-day broadcast event highlighted the heartwarming stories of St. Jude patients and their families resulting in Univision Radio listeners across the country to become Angeles de Esperanza (Angels of Hope) by making a donation of $20 per month. Seventeen cities around the nation and its territories, including Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Chicago, New York, and Puerto Rico, participated in more than 30 hours of programming to support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude.
"For more than 50 years, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has been a beacon of hope for thousands of sick children around the world," said Randy Falco, president and CEO, Univision Communications Inc. St. Jude Promesa y Esperanza continued this year with the support of Univision's portfolio of platforms including local radio and television stations, online, mobile and social media in addition to Univision America, Univision Radio's AM radio network. Additionally, radio and television personalities from Univision showed their support for St. Jude Promesa y Esperanza via social media. Among the personalities who donated their time and talent to support these efforts were El Show de Piolin's Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo; Desayuno Musical's Javier Romero; Univision America's Dra. "Thanks to their generosity, St. Jude can continue providing innovative treatments and exceptional care, while keeping our promise that no family ever pays St. Jude for anything."
The Promesa y Esperanza event was further supported by a number of Hispanic artists including Luis Fonsi, Luis Enrique, Juanes, Prince Royce, Chino y Nacho, Angelica Vale, Los Tigres del Norte, Banda El Recodo, Karen Martinez, Natalia Jimenez, Ana Soberon, Kany Garcia, Christian Meyer, Leslie Grace, Santaye, Angel y Khriz, Gerardo Ortiz, Pee Wee, Romeo Santos, Diana Reyes, and many more. The daily operating cost for St. Jude is $1.8 million and more than 75 percent of that funding is covered primarily by public contributions. Funds raised support the St. Jude mission of finding cures and impact the lives of children in communities across the country and around the world, as St. Jude freely shares its research discoveries so one child saved at St. Jude means thousands saved worldwide.
