BRIEF: TDS warns of robocall phishing scam

Feb 06, 2013 (The Wisconsin State Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- TDS Telecommunications Corp. is warning customers about a voice phishing scam.

The Madison-based company said Wednesday some of its customers have reported over the past several days receiving automated phone calls saying that fraudulent activity has been found on their account and telling them to call another phone number. When they make the call, they are asked about personal and account information.

TDS said it is not making those calls and advises customers not to use phone numbers given by robocalls or to follow links if contacted by email. Instead, they should use phone numbers in telephone books or on their bills if they have questions for TDS.

TDS also said if someone calls offering to check the computer by logging in remotely, "hang up immediately." Click here for more information on phishing and tips to prevent getting scammed.
