More Than 300 Operators Now Using PeerApp UltraBand Transparent Cache
NEWTON, MA, Jan 22, 2013 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --
PeerApp, the leading provider of transparent caching platforms for
Internet content delivery, today announced that more than 300 network
operators worldwide have deployed its UltraBand product in their
networks. UltraBand allows operators to deliver "over-the-top"
Internet content with improved quality, while reducing associated
network load and costs.
Rising consumer demand for video, file sharing and software
downloads, combined with unpredictable flash events such as
mass-market software updates and social media driven content,
presents a challenge for network operators globally. According to
Cisco Systems' Visual Networking Index (VNI), consumer Internet
traffic by 2016 will be quadruple its 2011 level.
PeerApp's UltraBand transparent caching platform helps operators
speed content delivery and reduce network load by automatically
detecting popular content and delivering from the edge of the
network. The number of operators using UltraBand has grown steadily,
surpassing 300 during 2012. These range from nationwide deployments
serving millions of subscribers to operators serving local
municipalities to university campus networks.
"The accelerating adoption of our technology is evidence of
operators' ever-expanding need to manage over-the-top content, and of
the positive impact that UltraBand delivers," said Robert Mayer, CEO
and co-founder, PeerApp. "Increasingly, transparent caching is
becoming a standard part of operators' strategies to manage network
costs, build subscriber loyalty and ultimately to monetize OTT
content."
Reflecting the growing interest in transparent caching, PeerApp
executives will be addressing diverse industry groups in the coming
weeks.
PeerApp will participate and exhibit in the Pacific
Telecommunications Council (PTC) 2013 conference in Honolulu, Hawaii,
January 21-23.
