Strategy Analytics Highlights Software/OS Trends in Automotive Multimedia and Communications

Jan 08, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- The Strategy Analytics Automotive Multimedia and Communications Service (AMCS) has predicted an enhanced role and increased competition for infotainment software and operating system (OS) vendors as they become more important to infotainment system functionality, reliability, and updatability while promoting a safe and positive user experience in its report: "Software/OS Trends in Automotive Multimedia and Communications: 2012 Update." According to a release, multiple forecast scenarios and OEM strategies for software and OS implementation are expected as the industry moves to software, rather than hardware defined infotainment systems. This report explores the market landscape, roadmap and competitive assessments of vehicle software and OS vendors including: QNX, Microsoft, Linux, Android and GENIVI. Supporting software vendors that remedy the shortfalls of generic Linux/Android/Tizen software including: Codethink, Jungo, Mentor Graphics, MontaVista, novero, Red Bend, Symphony Teleca, and Wind River are also outlined in the report.

"The consumer - more fickle and knowledgeable than ever before will ultimately decide which in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system suits their needs," said Mark Fitzgerald, Associate Director of Strategy Analytics' North American Automotive Services. "The winning IVI system will have a robust, safe and flexible OS that is easily updated to meet the current and future needs of the consumer." The Strategy Analytics Automotive Multimedia and Communications Service provides highly detailed system, feature and semiconductor forecasts as well as industry leading strategic market analysis of the applications and services markets.
