OPEN-PNFS.ORG Provides Platform for Industry Leaders via a New Initiative to Develop Parallel NFS Ecosystem
Cambridge, MA, Dec 12, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) --
Coraid, Nexenta, Nexsan, Panasas, Red Hat, Tonian, and Whiptail today announced their support for the Open-pNFS.org initiative. This community of industry leaders supports the development and adoption of the parallel network file system (pNFS) standard. By advancing client and server technology, end-users can have the confidence to adopt network attached storage for their most demanding applications. The mission of Open-pNFS.org is to foster open standards and interoperability to accelerate the expansion of the ecosystem.
"Parallel NFS promises to change the way companies manage their network storage. As it becomes widespread, it can give businesses cost-effective options for tiered data growth, business continuity, speed and flexibility in how resources are allocated, enabling them to better support unpredictable virtualized and cloud environments" said Terri McClure, Sr. Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group, Inc.
Open-pNFS.org will provide education, guidance and technical advice to help businesses understand and evaluate their options for adopting parallel NFS. The organizations complement the standards communities which are rapidly driving technology innovations for customers who need increased performance and scalability to manage their data growth.
Members of Open-pNFS.org have a common interest in supporting parallel NFS. They are involved in the development, support and use of network attached storage for clustered computing, virtualized infrastructures and Big Data Analytics.
"Initiatives like Open pNFS are critical to enterprises, especially for Big Data. This is not a niche solution. With such broad adoption by so many industry leaders, it gives rise to a rapid adoption by the industry." says Benjamin S. Woo, Managing Director at Neuralytix, a New York based industry analyst firm. "One of the biggest challenges faced by enterprises today is a standardized way to scale without a loss of performance, while keeping a tight lid on spiraling operational costs. Open pNFS meets all these criteria."
