GStreamer SDK Now Offers Support for Developing Multimedia Playback on Android
BARCELONA, Spain --(Business Wire)--
Collabora Ltd. and Fluendo S.A., two leading companies in open source
multimedia, are pleased to announce the GStreamer SDK now enables
building multimedia playback applications for Android (News - Alert) Operating System.
The latest GStreamer SDK introduces Android support for GStreamer,
allowing the powerful framework to be leveraged by Android applications
for advanced multimedia capabilities. It also includes improvements for
Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. It is freely available to download at http://www.gstreamer.com.
The GStreamer SDK facilitates the use and implementation of GStreamer, a
multimedia framework chosen by many Fortune 500 companies, for the
development of cross-platform and cross-architecture applications with
multimedia needs, to meet the expectations of server, desktop, mobile,
IVI, STB, digital signage environments.
The GStreamer SDK for Android is targeted at API Level 9 (Android 2.3.1,
Gingerbread) or higher. However, due to some of the restrictions of
previous versions of Android, some features such as hardware
acceleration are only available from API Level 16 (Android 4.1, Jelly
Bean).

The release of the SDK for Android aims to facilitate the adoption and
development of the GStreamer framework on the mobile platforms.
Developers have free access to the SDK, extensive documentation,
tutorials and instructions for installing GStreamer and getting started.
