Time Warner Cable Opens $82 Million National Data Center on Charlotte Campus
CHARLOTTE, N.C. --(Business Wire)--
Time Warner (News - Alert) Cable (TWC) has officially opened National Data Center East
on its Charlotte campus, just one of two centers of its kind nationwide
for the company. Announced last summer as part of a $101 million
expansion project in Charlotte, the Data Center supports the equipment
necessary to deliver service for Time Warner Cable's core residential
and business products.
"The latest IP technology housed in this building gives Time Warner
Cable the capability and flexibility to focus on delivering services in
line with our vision of bringing our customers the 4 Any's - any content
to any device, anywhere at any time," says Carol Hevey, executive vice
president of operations, Time Warner Cable East. "Locating one of just
two national data centers in Charlotte emphasizes TWC's commitment to
the Charlotte area and a commitment to provide the latest and best
technology to our customers."
A few key functions of the building include hosting the applications
that support approximately 70 million residential emails sent per day,
managing the billing records of more than 15 million customers and
providing all backend applications delivered to the entire Time Warner
Cable employee base.
The building also includes Cloud Technology from NaviSite (News - Alert), a Time Warner
Cable company. NaviSite's NaviCloud Platform has been designed to
address the critical IT issues confronting SMB and Enterprise
organizations. The primary goal of the virtual cloud environment is to
simplify the complexities of IT for small businesses.
"Time Warner Cable serves customers across 29 states and this National
Data Center provides the management and support for all Time Warner
Cable products nd services including WiFi (News - Alert), High Speed Data, Voice, TV
services on smart devices and Intelligent Home among others," added Jim
Ludington, executive vice president of national network operations and
engineering, Time Warner Cable. "In addition, the building is
strategically designed to double in equipment size to accommodate future
growth."
The $82 million dollar National Data Center is a 178,000 square foot
facility that includes 1,600 racks of technical equipment and four
12,000 square foot data halls. The second facility is a four-story,
103,500 square foot administrative office building. In support of TWC's
green initiative, both buildings will seek Silver LEED certification.
As part of the construction announcement made last summer, Time Warner
Cable also announced the addition of 225 new jobs. All of those
positions have been filled. With the addition of these jobs, Charlotte
is now home to the company's largest corporate campus.
