InterDigital Highlights Demo of Wi-Fi Access over TV White Space Spectrum at DySPAN 2012

Oct 25, 2012 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- InterDigital, Inc. announced a live, over-the-air public demonstration of a solution to provide Wi-Fi access supported in dynamically selected TV White Space (TVWS) spectrum channels.

According to a release, completed at the IEEE DySPAN 2012 conference in Bellevue, WA, the demo featured TVWS geo-location identification via integration with TVWS database provider Spectrum Bridge, Inc., as well as dynamic over-the-air sensing of TVWS spectrum availability, in collaboration with Shared Spectrum, Inc.

InterDigital's Dynamic Spectrum Management (DSM) technology is a TVWS solution capable of aggregating up to four non-contiguous TVWS channels to provide up to 40Mbps throughput. As TVWS channel availability or conditions change, DSM will dynamically adjust to mitigate interference and thus maintain user sessions.

"InterDigital's DSM technology platform is a breakthrough in the use of TV White Space as a networking platform, providing both reliability and performance in the harsher shared spectrum environment," said Narayan Menon, Vice President of Research and Development at InterDigital. "Not only do we believe this demo marked a significant moment in the development of TV White Space technology, but the platform is easily adaptable to other spectrum bands and is designed for diverse 'shared spectrum access' applications - including those outlined in a recent report to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology."
