String of robberies may be connected

Oct 11, 2012 (Northwest Florida Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to be vigilant after five people were robbed under similar circumstances recently.

According to a Sheriff's Office news release, the latest robbery involved an employee of Sonny's Barbecue on Beal Parkway at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. The employee was walking to his car when a man threatened him with a gun and demanded his wallet.

The robber is described as a black man, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. He was wearing a light-colored shirt, long shorts, a black do-rag and a piece of black clothing on his face. He was seen meeting a second black man.

The Sheriff's Office also says an armed home invasion robbery on Willow Grove Lane and a robbery of two women on Dell Road in Fort Walton Beach occurred Sept. 29.

On Sept. 30, an employee at Cash's Liquor Store in Mary Esther was hit on the head and robbed of a bank bag, and a man was robbed of cash and a cellphone in Fort Walton Beach after giving three men a ride.

Anyone with information on the robberies is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 651-7400 or Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers at 863-TIPS.
