jqMobi Becomes First Mobile JavaScript Framework to Achieve Worldwide Web App Deployment by Major Social Network

LANCASTER, Pa. --(Business Wire)--

jqMobi (www.jqmobi.com) today announced that it is the first mobile JavaScript framework to be used by a major social network in a massive global deployment on tens of millions of iOS and Android (News - Alert) mobile devices. jqMobi is the first JavaScript framework that was specifically designed for speed and continuity on both iOS and Android, and other WebKit-based mobile devices. It was originally conceived and created by appMobi (News - Alert) and then released as open source in February 2012. Since then, it has attracted tens of thousands of developers who are using it to create mobile Web apps and hybrid native apps.

Badoo is a leading global social network with over 150 million users. The company has been a very active open source participant in the jqMobi project, contributing important enhancements that include native scrolling in iOS, optimized long list scrolling, and built-in memory cleanup for plugins. Badoo performed extensive testing of its jqMobi-based Web app prior to rolling it out to their worldwide user base in mid-August. The app can be seen by navigating to www.badoo.com on an iOS or Android-based mobile device.

This deployment marks the first time that an off-the-shelf mobile app framework has been deplyed on a worldwide scale. jqMobi was recently tested independently and has proven to deliver the best user experience on mobile devices. http://www.codefessions.com/2012/08/performance-of-jquery-compatible-mobile.html

The improvements contributed to the jqMobi project by Badoo, appMobi and others are now available to all. jqMobi version 1.1 is now available in general release. Among other enhancements, 1.1 contains upgrades to existing plugins like css3Animate and carousel, and objects can now register jqMobi events, previously only available to DOM nodes. A new repository has been created to house jqMobi plugins, making it easier for developers to pick and choose needed functionality when they are building apps. A new touchLayer plugin provides a delay-free touch input that works identically on iOS and Android.

jqMobi 1.1 is available free as an open source project at https://github.com/appmobi/jq.mobi.

About jqMobi

jqMobi is the first JavaScript framework developed solely for use on mobile devices, and it is optimized for touch-based interface and smaller screen sizes. It is significantly smaller and faster than other frameworks such as Sencha Touch and jQuery that were originally developed for desktop Web. jqMobi was originally created by appMobi and open sourced in February 2012, and is being used in tens of thousands of mobile Web apps and hybrid apps around the world. While most JavaScript app frameworks deliver a good user experience on iOS devices, many have difficulties with the highly fragmented Android platform. jqMobi offers developers a solid framework that delivers equivalent user experiences on both iOS and Android platforms.
