BRIEF: Lake Oswego School District considers switch to paperless, video recorded meeting format

Jul 16, 2012 (The Oregonian - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Lake Oswego School Board might be going paperless. Superintendent Bill Korach introduced a plan to outfit each board member with an iPad or similar tablet device, along with a video recording system to eliminate the need for physical copies of documents and streamline minute-taking.

A dollar amount is expected to be produced at Tuesday's morning meeting. An early estimate from Granicus, the company that records and broadcasts meetings online for cities such as Sandy and Milwaukie, puts the startup cost at $6,500, and $1,500 for monthly video service.

The video service would allow a quicker turnaround for people who want to know what happened at a meeting, but couldn't attend. Now, secretary Shari Huffmaster takes notes by hand, then must type them up and post them online, which can take awhile.

The district would buy the tablets for board members so they could access all the documents electronically, rather than needing multiple copies of meeting packets.

The meeting is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the district's central office, 2455 Country Club Road.
