Survey: 50% of Small to Mid-Sized Businesses Don't Scan Web Applications for Security Risks
SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--
nCircle, the leading provider of automated security and compliance
auditing solutions, today announced the results of a security survey
of 145 professionals responsible for IT security in small to mid-sized
businesses.
The study was conducted between November 14, 2011 and November 26, 2011
to better understand the security and compliance
issues that have the greatest impact on smaller businesses.
When asked "Are you sure the web applications your company uses are
secure?", 39% of respondents said they rely on their firewall and third
party applications for web security and 11% said outsourcing their web
applications provided "good enough" security.
"Web application vulnerabilities such as cross-site scripting (XSS) and
SQL Injection attacks make up an increasing percentage of newly
discovered vulnerabilities and reported cyber-attacks. Web applications
also change faster than many other business applications," said
Elizabeth Ireland, vice president of marketing at nCircle. "These two
factors combine to make web applications a primary target for cyber
criminals. Every organization should apply extra security diligence to
their web applications, even if the applications are ourced through a
third party."
