Aspen Healthcare Increases Bandwidth Significantly at Cancer Centre London Using BridgeWave Gigabit Wireless Solution

SANTA CLARA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

BridgeWave Communications, the leading supplier of 4G millimeter wave backhaul solutions, today announced that London-based Aspen Healthcare is utilizing BridgeWave's (News - Alert) 80 GHz millimeter wave systems to connect Cancer Centre London to nearby Parkside Hospital. By deploying BridgeWave's ultra-high capacity gigabit Ethernet wireless bridges between facilities, Aspen Healthcare has increased bandwidth ten-fold while achieving a cost savings of 45 percent over a three year period.

As part of the strategy to expand the oncology and cancer treatment practice at Cancer Centre London, Aspen Healthcare's IT director, David Williams, began exploring network connectivity solutions that would significantly improve bandwidth and reduce the cost of the existing 100 Mbps connection. With the previous network infrastructure, traffic was regularly and significantly exceeding capacity with the connection occasionally interrupted by inclement weather several times a year, rendering the administrative department and staff unable to fully function for extended periods of time.

The Aspen IT team worked with U.K.-based Value Added Reseller, Nouveau Solutions, Ltd, to design and run tests that gauged BridgeWave's link performance and resulting throughput between buildings. After a successful trial, Williams quickly decided to commission the system.

"Due to the exceptional improvements in connectivity with the BridgeWave solution, we now have the aility to build out our infrastructure and improve the entire spectrum of data services that are being used across the network," said Williams. "BridgeWave's GigE solutions significantly reduce concerns about how or where to provision high bandwidth services within the infrastructure, ultimately saving us a significant amount of time."

BridgeWave's 80 GHz system has been running smoothly for more than 18 months. One of the benefits of the link was the quick installation, which eliminated the need to trench fiber in extremely condensed Central London-a tremendously costly endeavor, both in installation costs and annual rental fees.

"BridgeWave's solution has enabled us to deliver significantly increased bandwidth to the business while demonstrating to management that significant cost savings can be made over traditional leased lines," added Williams. "Most importantly, we are able to transfer important data including large imaging files securely and quickly over a reliable network."

"More healthcare organizations, like Aspen Healthcare, are choosing our gigabit wireless links to transmit their critical data, as they have shown to be a secure, reliable and cost efficient alternative to leasing or trenching fiber," said Amir Makleff (News - Alert), president and CEO of BridgeWave. "Aspen Healthcare will be able to maintain connectivity and ultimately serve their patients more effectively without network downtime."
