Frost & Sullivan Recognizes Fortinet With Product Line Strategy Award for Virtual Security

May 27, 2011 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Fortinet, a network security provider, announced that it has received the 2011 North American Product Line Strategy Award for Virtual Security Products.

The Product Line Strategy Award is a recognition of Fortinet's accomplishments in the virtual security products market, including its breadth of product line and impact on customer value.

"Fortinet's ability to develop products around high-demand technologies has pushed them to the forefront as a security vendor," said Richard Martinez, Research Analyst for Frost & Sullivan's Network Security group. "Although many security vendors are building their security technologies to work in the virtual environment, Fortinet has been able to release their virtual security appliances with positive reception from the security market and organizations. Fortinet's efforts in the virtual security space have enabled the company to be a leader and legitimate solution contender." Fortinet has been offering virtual architectures since the introduction of Virtual Domain (VDOM) technology in 2004 as part of its FortiGate consolidated security appliance line. According to Frost & Sullivan, Fortinet is a viable player in the virtual security technology space, having built a complete portfolio that offers a full breadth of content and network security in an integrated virtual appliance designed to protect both the network perimeter and virtual layers. Fortinet's technology enables service providers to differentiate their on-demand platforms with a full range of value-add virtualized network security services. Large enterprises also rely on Fortinet technology to protect the data within their private and hybrid clouds.

In addition to the virtual architecture within the FortiGate platform, Fortinet also provides FortiGate, FortiManager and FortiWeb virtual appliances that combine with physical appliances to provide customers a choice of physical and virtual form factors, working together to mitigate security blind spots and increase security controls within virtualized infrastructure environments. The combined solution provides a deeper integration into the virtual environments many customers have adopted, enabling Fortinet to expand the reach of its consolidated security further within the virtual movement. These products currently run on top of VMware hypervisors.

"We're very pleased with this award, as it validates our vision of securing virtual environments. The virtual architectures introduced in 2004 allowed us to continue to achieve success with our virtual appliance line," said Patrick Bedwell, vice president of product marketing for Fortinet. "It's our priority to give our large enterprise and carrier clients a broad set of integrated tools to help secure their virtual and physical network environments through a single pane of glass management console."
