TriZetto's Clinical CareAdvance Solution Sets Performance and Scalability Benchmarks of More Than 40 Million Members, Supporting Health Plans of All Sizes

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. --(Business Wire)--

The TriZetto Group, Inc. today announced that its Clinical CareAdvance® care management application set performance, scalability and reliability benchmarks during recent performance testing at Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) Services Labs. In simulations based on actual healthcare payer data, the software efficiently served more than 40 million members while concurrently used by more than 5,000 health plan clinicians. TriZetto's (News - Alert) system demonstrated strong performance even during periods of batch processing and database maintenance.

Part of TriZetto's CareAdvance Enterprise® solution, the Clinical CareAdvance system automates and streamlines case, disease and utilization management tasks that traditionally have required extensive manual labor by care management nurses.

"TriZetto's Clinical CareAdvance application scales up and down to large and small membership counts without compromising performance -- great news for payers of all types and sizes," said Rich Kerian, TriZetto's senior vice president of product development. "Healthcare reform will bring millions of additional people into the system. These test results validate that our care management product will be both responsive and reliable as health plan customers, accountable care organizations and at-risk provider organizations adapt to the post-reform era, enrolling and serving expanded membership."

"Microsoft (News - Alert) and TriZetto have shown that, together, we can support the day-to-day care-management needs of the nation's largest healthcare organizations," said Mike Ruthruff, senior program manager at Microsoft.

"The tests demonstrated the mission-critical scalability and performance of Microsoft and TriZetto technologies. More importantly, they demonstrated our ability to make a positive difference in healthcare."

TriZetto partnered with Microsoft in the performance and scalability tests for several reasons. Its Clinical CareAdvance application runs atop Microsoft technology, and Microsoft engineers and technicians are experts in configuring and tuning servers and databases for optimal performance. Further, TriZetto wanted a reputable third party to play a key role to help ensure the validity of the tests and confirm the results for payer organizations that consider its Clinical CareAdvance system.

The test team simulated the technology environment of a payer operation, with excessive througput, reporting and call demands imposed on the software and associated hardware. The evaluations were conducted in three phases, with the final phase using an expanded database of 41 million members -- processing data of more than 100 different member concepts (e.g., height, weight, etc.) for each of the members. The team also created multiple test scripts, each simulating transactions and activities typical of a large payer's clinical staff.

In the final evaluation, the team ran individual tests and, later, combined tests. System performance met or exceeded goals in every area evaluated, demonstrating that TriZetto's Clinical CareAdvance application could efficiently meet the needs of more than 5,000 concurrent online users who, in turn, serve the needs of a membership of more than 40 million people.

The pre-test analysis, planning and scalability exercises were performed at TriZetto's permanent performance lab in Albuquerque.
