Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare Deploys Mimecast to Improve Email Access, Storage and Security

Mar 24, 2011 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Mimecast, a supplier of cloud-based email security, continuity and archiving, announced that Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, a seven-hospital system based in Memphis, Tennessee, has chosen the company's cloud-based email solutions to improve the storage, archiving and discovery, security and bandwidth of its email system as it made the transition to a Microsoft Exchange environment.

As one of the largest health networks in the United States, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare has thousands of users spread out across hospitals, agencies and clinics. These users need the ability to search stored emails. With Mimecast's archiving and discovery functionality, Methodist's employees will never have to worry about being unable to locate information when they need it.

As Methodist's IT staff began the transition to Microsoft Exchange, they determined that they needed a secure email management solution from a company that would commit to storing and encrypting data in the way prescribed by the organization. Healthcare organizations such as Methodist need to strictly guard the privacy of patient data in order to comply with HIPAA and numerous other regulations. With Mimecast, the health network could rest easy knowing that its data was secure and its IT staff could use the new software to show compliance as needed.

"Not only did Mimecast offer a way to compliment our move to Microsoft Exchange with new and needed functionality, they were willing to partner with us and agree to our encryption and security requests," said Matt Green, Director of Micro Applications at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. "Mimecast's confidence in its solution and in its ability to deliver for us was easy to see and gave us all the assurance we needed to move our email to the cloud." By moving its archive to the cloud, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare said it will be able to lower its hardware costs as the amount of disk space and servers needed is far smaller than before.

"Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare is the perfect example of the type of organization that can see strong benefits from utilizing cloud-based email services," noted Samantha Stone, Mimecast's VP of Marketing for North America. "Healthcare organizations have data protection and privacy needs that other types of business simply don't. Networks like Methodist need a partner willing to stand by its solution and ensure that information will be stored and protected in a way that matches their compliance needs." With seven hospitals, multiple home health agencies and outpatient clinics to serve the Mid-South, Methodist is one of the largest hospital systems in the country. It was named one of 2009's Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks by SDI, the nation's premier rating system, which looked at networks' technology, services and physicians. Methodist has several specialty areas: The Neuroscience Institute, The Transplant Institute, The Cancer Center, The Cardiovascular Institute and pediatrics at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital-all which help it provide superior quality healthcare throughout the Mid-South.
