Crocodoc Launches Embeddable HTML5 Document Viewer

Feb 21, 2011 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- Crocodoc said it is announcing the immediate availability of the world's first embeddable HTML5 document viewer, which can display high-fidelity documents online without the need for Flash or 3rd party plugins.

Combined with the company's current collaboration services, the company noted, the new HTML5 document viewer brings Crocodoc one step closer to fulfilling its vision of letting anyone view any document on any device. End-users and application developers can access the HTML5 document viewer and Crocodoc's API at CrocoDoc.com.

"We are fundamentally changing the way people work with documents," said Ryan Damico, CEO of Crocodoc. "People shouldn't have to download documents for common tasks like viewing, commenting, and form filling...documents should be a part of the web just like other media. With our new embeddable viewer, application developers can now offer these key abilities to their users directly through their products using our cutting-edge HTML5 technology." The newly launched Crocodoc Partner Program gives application developers and content providers the ability to integrate documents into their online offerings. Crocodoc replaces direct download links that take users off-site and require them to run Acrobat or Word; it also replaces Flash- and image-based document viewers hampered by low-fidelity, poor mobile support, and security vulnerabilities.

The Crocodoc Partner Program is ideal for application developers in social enterprise, content management, and education as well as content providers and blogs. Its highlights include an embeddable HTML5 document viewer that can be customized in both appearance and behavior and can be integrated via the Crocodoc API, optional commenting and markup tools that bring collaboration to document viewing and high-fidelity document rendering with upcoming mobile support.

Yammer, an enterprise social networking tool, is one of the flagship companies integrating Crocodoc technology into its service. Doing so will allow them to introduce a full-fledged document collaboration platform where employees can discuss and review documents within the Yammer application.

The Crocodoc HTML5 embeddable viewer is available immediately and is free for non-commercial use.
