Donald Wyma, PhD, Joins Proactive Worldwide's Life Sciences/Healthcare Practice as Senior Engagement Manager

Proactive Worldwide, Inc., a leader in providing customized business intelligence research and consulting services, announces today that Donald J. Wyma, PhD, has joined Proactive Worldwide as Senior Engagement Manager for the company's life sciences/healthcare practice.

With a PhD in microbiology and immunology, Dr. Wyma adds a wealth of experience to the company's scientific expertise on staff. He comes to Proactive Worldwide from the office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence in Washington, DC, where he served as the Deputy Director for Scientific and Technical Intelligence Analysis.

At Proactive Worldwide, Dr. Wyma will report to Carl B. Derenfeld, Vice President - Life Sciences/Healthcare. "Don's hire will allow the team to move even more rapidly toward our goal of becoming the leading global decision support group in healthcare," Derenfeld said. "Don brings significant experience in providing strategic guidance for evidence-based intelligence analysis, integrating product teams to redefine policies and processes, and leading competitive assessments in developed countries and emerging markets across a diverse set of scientific topics."

Dr. Wyma's prior experience includes serving as a senior biological specialist in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, where he managed biological warfare counter-proliferation efforts. He has also been a senior intelligence officer with the National Center for Medical Intelligence, where he directed the Emerging Biotechnology Team on a wide array of technologies, including stem cells and novel vaccines and therapeutics. In Bagram, Afghanistan, he was a senior intelligence analyst with the Defense Intelligence Agency, where he supervised support for targeting for military operations. As a medical intelligence analyst, he authored or co-authored more than 100 intelligence reports on foreign biotechnology capabilities and served as head of the Avian Influenza/Pandemic Influenza Team.

Dr. Wyma performed molecular and biochemical experiments on the Rift Valley Fever virus and Ebola virus as an American Society for Microbiology Research Fellow in the Special Pathogens Branch for the CDC, and performed research under BioSafety Level 4 lab conditions.

Dr. Wyma received his PhD from Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN) and his BS degree in biochemistry with a minor in biology from Benedictine University (Lisle, IL). He is the lead author of peer-reviewed scientific publications and has received numerous awards.
