Mindspeed Adds New Generation of Transimpedance Amplifiers (TIAs) to Growing Physical Media Device (PMD) Offering for Passive Optical Network (PON) Equipment
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. --(Business Wire)--
Mindspeed
Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPD), a leading supplier of
semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today
announced the company's latest generation of high-sensitivity 1.25Gbps
and 2.5Gbps TIAs. The M02025 and M02028 TIAs improve optical sensitivity
and dynamic range while adding key new features that reduce the cost of
optical network terminals (ONTs) for deploying fiber-to-the-x (FTTx)
multi-play services over fiber-access networks that use Gigabit Ethernet
passive optical network (GEPON) and Gigabit PON (GPON) technology.
Mindspeed will be demonstrating its TIAs and the rest of its broad
family of PMD solutions at the China
International Optoelectronic Exposition (CIOE), September 6-9, 2010,
in booth 209/210 at the Shenzhen Exhibition and Convention Center in
Shenzhen, China. Mindspeed®'s M02025 and M02028 devices extend the
capabilities of the company's widely deployed GPON and GEPON TIAs, which
are shipping in high volumes to Tier One customers worldwide. The M02025
and M02028 devices also can be used with the company's M02098 highly
integrated laser drivers and post amplifier with dual closed-loop
Eye-Minder™ technology. The combination creates a complete PON module
chipset solution that delivers superior design margin, while lowering
the overall module manufacturing cost.
"Mindspeed continues to expand our PMD product offering in the PON
market," said Hasnain Bajwa, senior vice president and general manager
of Mindspeed's lightspeed connectivity solutions (LCS) business unit.
"The M02025 and M02028 TIAs offer superior sensitivity and, when used
with our highly integrated laser drivers, streamline the design of GPON
and GEPON ONTs."
LuxNet
Corporation has collaborated with Mindspeed to provide the
Bi-directional Optical Sub-Assembly (BOSA), using the M02025 on a GPON
Small-Form-Factor (SFF) reference design to be showcased at CIOE.
"LuxNet has a long history working with Mindspeed for designs spanning
several generations of TIA (News - Alert) devices," said Leslie Huang, vice resident
of worldwide sales. "We are particularly pleased with the M02025
device's ability to provide additional performance margin and cut
overall system costs for GPON and OC-48 modules."
Product Details
The 1.25Gbps M02028 TIA and 2.5Gbps M02025 TIA both feature wide input
dynamic range and support different transmission distance requirements,
including short-haul fiber-optic systems that require typical input
overload of 4 mA (peak to peak). The devices are also well suited for
high-split-ratio PON networks that require TIAs capable of detecting
very small signals in a noisy environment. Typical sensitivity for the
M02025 TIA in Receiver Optical Sub Assembly (ROSA) applications is
better than -28dBm at 3Gbps and better than -30dBm at 2.5Gbps when used
with a PIN diode, and performance with an Avalanche Photodiode (APD)
exceeds -35dBm at 2.5Gbps. Typical sensitivity for the M02028 TIA is
better than -31dBm at 1.25Gbps when used with a PIN diode.
The Mindspeed TIAs each support multiple data rates, from 1.25Gbps to
3Gbps and from 100Mbps to 1.25Gbps for the M02025 and M02028,
respectively. Each TIA also reduces overall ROSA assembly costs by
eliminating the need for photodiode filtering caps and internal ROSA
power supply decoupling caps. Both devices are designed with integrated
average photodiode current outputs that support both PIN and APD-based
photodiode monitoring with excellent accuracy. The M02025 and M02028
also feature an on-die temperature sensor that can be used for APD
temperature monitoring implementations.
Pricing and Availability
The M02025 and M02028 TIAs are currently in volume production. Pricing
information is available upon request.
