Austrian Ministry of the Interior selects Extreme Networks

Jun 22, 2010 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) -- Ethernet network infrastructure provider Extreme Networks Inc (Nasdaq:EXTR) announced on Tuesday the Austrian Ministry of the Interior (BM.I) has selected its data centre, edge and aggregation network solutions to migrate the local networks and data centres of the security administration department for eight federal states and for the capital, Vienna.

No financial details were disclosed.

According to the company, BM.I selected Extreme Networks solutions because of its reliability, performance, energy efficiency and ease of management. The network design plan consists of building a high performance network for the aggregation of servers, support of iSCSI-based converged storage applications and to provide edge connectivity for 31,000 users.

For the implementation of the new networks and data centres, the company has delivered its BlackDiamond 8810 modular switches for the core and its Summit X450a and Summit X480 fixed Gigabit Ethernet switches and Summit X650 10 Gigabit fixed switches at the edge and aggregation.

BlackDiamond 8810 switches provide 10Gb Ethernet backbone connectivity for data centres, while Summit switches deliver high performance aggregation of servers, connectivity for iSCSI Network-Attached Storage (NAS) systems and edge connectivity for users, the company said.
