Vodafone selects Icera soft modem to power latest USB mobile broadband stick

May 25, 2010 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) -- Icera Inc, a mobile broadband semiconductor company, announced today that its Livanto chipset and Adaptive Wireless technology has been selected by UK mobile network operator Vodafone (LSE:VOD)(Nasdaq:VOD) for use in its new K3805-Z USB stick.

The company said that the K3805-Z incorporates Icera's IceClear interference aware technology, which can use sophisticated signal processing algorithms implemented in software to cancel the effect of interference from other cells, potentially delivering up to triple the previous average connection speeds for Vodafone customers in weaker signal areas and improving network efficiency and reliability. The stick has a theoretical peak downlink rate of 14.4Mb/s HSPA in optimal conditions.

No financial details of the deal between Vodafone and Icera were disclosed. The USB stick will be available in Europe and certain African countries.
