T-Mobile Extends Wi-Fi Calling Leadership

(Market Wire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BELLEVUE, WA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/26/10 -- As the industry renews its focus on the adoption and deployment of Wi-Fi technology, T-Mobile today announced it logs 1.6 million Wi-Fi calls per month, a new milestone for the industry. The first major carrier to offer Wi-Fi calling, T-Mobile makes this service available from open Wi-Fi access points across the globe, helping organizations -- from large enterprises to small businesses -- reduce domestic and international wireless minute usage, which may result in significant cost savings.

"One of the primary reasons we switched to T-Mobile was its Wi-Fi calling offering, the only one of its kind," said Jeremiah David, director of technology development, EOI Service Company. "This feature enables our agents to remain connected when traveling to remote areas of the U.S. and, when combined with T-Mobile's international reach, T-Mobile's Wi-Fi calling service provides international calling and emailing anywhere abroad without roaming fees." Further underscoring its commitment to provide its customers with high-value Wi-Fi calling solutions, T-Mobile today unveiled its new T-Mobile Solution Providers program, a cooperative effort between T-Mobile and best-in-class WLAN resellers/system integrators to ensure customers are both optimized for UMA and have voice-optimized Wi-Fi networks. The program provides customers with a broader solution set and additional expertise that complements T-Mobile's existing Wi-Fi calling products and services. Further, the collaborative engagement provides customers with a streamlined experience, thereby offering the opportunity for both cost savings and increased efficiencies.

"While some are just now jumping onto the Wi-Fi calling bandwagon, we've long offered our customers the freedom to make calls from almost anywhere while keeping costs down. We're excited about the adoption of Wi-Fi technology and are continuing to look for ways to optimize the experience for our customers -- from Wi-Fi Calling with MobileOffice to our new T-Mobile Solution Providers program," said Femi Lakeru, vice president, Business Sales at T-Mobile USA.

To further improve productivity and reduce telecom costs, T-Mobile also offers Wi-Fi Calling with MobileOffice(SM), an exclusive service that enables organizations to extend their desktop phone functionality to a mobile device. T-Mobile's Wi-Fi Calling with MobileOffice uses the BlackBerry® Mobile Voice System (MVS) to mobilize PBX systems, bringing office phone features to BlackBerry smartphones. Available upon request, T-Mobile offers the "5 Simple Steps: T-Mobile Talks Wi-Fi Calling with MobileOffice" video that highlights how easy the product is to install and deploy.
