'Orange pilots VoIP phone/web booths with 17-in screens'
(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Orange France has installed new payphones featuring 17-inch touch screens and VoIP service in various parts of Paris for an initial six-month experiment. The concept was developed by Orange with a look designed by Patrick Jouin and developed by street furniture group JCDecaux. The booths can also be used to browse the internet and check e-mail. They have been rolled out in four tourist areas (Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, Champs-Elysees, Le Marais), two residential areas (La Villette, Place d'Italie), two student areas (Saint-Michel, Saint-Germain) and three shopping areas (Haussmann, Montparnasse, Bercy). Orange welcomes feedback from both users and young businesses with innovative ideas to enhance the new booth's functions.
