Asparagus Media Launches Web-Based Philanthropic Effort "Indie Music for Haiti," Enabling Independent Musicians to Generate Support for Haiti Reconstruction
TAKOMA PARK, Md. --(Business Wire)--
Asparagus Media, Inc. today unveiled Indie Music for Haiti, a new, musician-friendly Web site that enables independent artists to use their music to support the Haiti reconstruction effort. The new site, www.indiemusicforhaiti.com, allows independent musicians to submit digital music files and video clips of recent performances, new songs written for or about the crisis, and other video content designed to promote charitable giving to Haitian relief. The site is structured to simplify content submission and allows artists to easily direct viewers to the charity of their choice.
To mark the launch of the site, Indie Music for Haiti hosted a successful fundraising concert Feb. 2nd at the popular Washington, DC music venue DC9. The event, which featured performances by artists including Tommy T of Gogol Bordello, raised several thousand dollars for the relief group Voice of Haiti. All the performances from that event were filmed in high definition, and are among the first clips anchoring the content at Indie Music for Haiti.
"Everyone who watched the Hope For Haiti' television fundraiser saw what a difference music can make, moving concerned people to action for a good cause. There are thousands of great bands that weren't featured on the Hope for Haiti' bill who also want to help. Our new site will let them do that," said Asparagus Media President Fritz Stolzenbach.
Stolzenbach added, "A huge part of the worldwide music industry isn't affiliated with any mainstream music label. We're giving these kinds of artists and their fans a place to congregate and make a positive difference for a devastated nation. We will also aggressively publicize the site using the latest social media tools, to expose fans to this important content and make it easy for them to give to the cause."
Hosting services for the Indie Music for Haiti web site are being donated by McLean, Va.-based ServInt, a pioneering provider of managed web hosting for businesses worldwide. Web design services for Indie Music for Haiti have been provided free of charge by Simple Station. Because site design and hosting services were donated, all revenue generated at the site will go directly to the charities chosen by participating artists.
ServInt Chief Operating Officer Christian Dawson said, "With the potential to showcase hundreds - and eventually thousands - of high-quality music and video files, Indie Music for Haiti will require a large amount of bandwidth and continuous monitoring to ensure reliable performance. ServInt will deploy all necessary hosting resources to guarantee an optimal user experience and to give thousands of music fans the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing relief effort in Haiti."
