BRIEF: Update: O'Banion to run for reelection as a county supervisor
Dec 31, 2009 (Merced Sun-Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Supervisor Jerry O'Banion said he was running for reelection as District 5 supervisor.
"For more than 18 years, I have had the privilege of serving the people of Merced County," O'Banion said in a news release.
The release said O'Banion oversaw the annexation of more than six square miles into Merced County "to include an underserved portion of Fresno County," south of Dos Palos.
O'Banion serves as the county board of supervisors' representative on the Local Agency Formation Commission.
He's a lifelong resident of Dos Palos, where he served on the city council. He was elected to the county board in 1990 and has served four years as chairman.
O'Banion stressed his role in preserving county libraries, as well as the fact that he grew up on a family farm.
