AppliedMicro Selects Cadence

Dec 31, 2009 (Zacks.com via COMTEX) -- Earlier this month, AppliedMicro Circuits Corporation (AMCC) announced that it has selected an Encounter Digital Implementation (EDI) System from Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (CDNS) for its complex advanced-node designs. This EDI System joins other multiprocessing-capable offerings from AMCC to form a standardized design infrastructure based set of tools.

Customers use Cadence software and hardware, methodologies and services to design and verify advanced semiconductors, consumer electronics, networking and telecommunications equipment and computer systems. Management stated that using the EDI system from Cadence enabled the company to achieve significant area reduction and higher utilizations on toughest designs which were difficult to process using the previous methodology. The Nanoroute from Cadence enabled AppliedMicro to port its design from a 90-nanometer process technology to 40 nanometers.

Cadence EDI system has comprehensive floorplanning capabilities, advanced node-ready hierarchical design closure, low power and integrated yield optimization features.

Applied Micro, earlier released energy efficient versions of the company's families of 405 and 460 microprocessors that consume up to 40% less power for a variety of embedded applications. The new low-power processor family members offer an improvement of about 20% in typical power consumption.

Meanwhile, the company changed its new name to AppliedMicro from Applied Micro Circuits Corporation. Management believes that the new name reflects the company's drive for breakthrough energy efficiency and cost optimized semiconductor devices that will propel the company into new growth markets.

Headquartered in San Diego, California, Applied Micro Circuits is a leading provider of high-bandwidth integrated circuits (ICs) for optical telecom networks.
