December 3, 2009 (FinancialWire) (By Bob Farley) -- Nike's (NYSE: NKE) shares are about where they were when their big star Tiger Woods's problems with keeping his life straight exploded from behind his carefully crafted dome of privacy.
Having Woods join the ranks of mere mortals shouldn't do much to tarnish his sponsors' images, and likely won't hurt his for much longer. It's not the first time his actions have been less than gentlemanly, though till now the worst he could be faulted for publicly was a penchant to use foul language on the golf course when things didn't go his way.
We'll have to wait to see what exactly gets pinned to Woods. Reckless driving, for sure. Being involved in strange after-midnight traffic accidents, check. And some nameless transgression that many hint about, at least one Hollywood claims to be true, and the scandal sheets will be making lots of money on in the coming days and weeks.
And there we go. Another hero bites the dust.
