STRICTLY BUSINESS - Touchet saloon offers free holiday dinner

Nov 26, 2009 (Walla Walla Union-Bulletin - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- On the hunt for a turkey dinner today? The Seed House Saloon in Touchet is serving up a free dinner around 2 p.m., said owner Nicki Blanchard.

Regular restaurant service is closed for the day. But Blanchard said guests can come in for a family dinner at the business at 24 Touchet Gardena Road.

The restaurant will resume its regular operation at 6:30 a.m. Friday. Karaoke, for adults only, will be at 9 p.m.

One change at the Seed House: The recently introduced breakfast service will be taken off the menu Mondays and Tuesdays. Blanchard said demand has been low for breakfast those days. It will continue Wednesday through Saturday.

Walla Walla Java Hut will have its tiki torches lit for those in need of a jolt first thing Black Friday. The Eastgate coffee shop, 515 N. Wilbur Ave. across from Wendy's, will open at 4 a.m. Friday, said owner Cameo Hokanson.

The tropical-themed java stop will be caffeinating consumers for the big shopping day. Hokanson expects quite a few shoppers out for the business's first Black Friday.

"With the way the economy is, everybody is trying to watch their pennies and trying to get the sales," she said. "Everybody is trying to get the best deal." Coffee's no exception. She said the Walla Walla Java Hut will feature $1 off mochas throughout the day.

"I think it'll be fun," she said. "The holidays bring out everyone's child-like attitudes. It's the season of giving." Black Friday will be a bright day for the domestic violence cause.

Verizon Wireless stores will be accepting used cell phone donations to help support victims of domestic violence.

More than 27,000 used cell phones have already been donated by Washingtonians this year. The phones are refurbished or recycled through Verizon's HopeLine program. Proceeds generated from their sale is donated, as well as airtime, to victims of domestic violence. Funds are also given to nonprofit shelters and prevention programs across the country.

Given that Friday's expected to be one of the biggest retail days of the year, Verizon officials are offering special deals on equipment for those interested in upgrading.
