'Orange France reacts to exorbitant mobile internet bills'
Nov 20, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) --
Orange France has enacted measures to prevent users of its 3G+ mobile
internet services receiving exorbitant bills. In one week, three
business customers told the press they were billed EUR 39,500, EUR
46,000 and EUR 159,212 for a service they thought offered them
unlimited internet access. Although access is unlimited in terms of
time spent online, the volume is limited to 1 GB per month, enough for
e-mails, but quickly overtaken by downloading. Past this ceiling,
customers are charged EUR 0.17 per MB. Orange regrets the situation and
will now prevent any bill of over EUR 200 for its 3G+ Internet Pro
Everywhere 24h/24 subscribers to be sent automatically, and will
contact them personally before sending the bill. The around 50
customers whose consumption is higher than the usual standard will be
contacted individually. Orange is putting in place a national traffic
regulation for the 4,000 subscribers to this plan which is identical to
the one for consumers to prevent the risk of excessive usage. The
operator will improve customer information, especially terms of sale
and use when abroad. By the end of the year, it will offer its 4,000
subscribers to switch for the same price to an unlimited offer that
will allow them to better control their bills for use in metropolitan
France.
