Oct 02, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- 2009 PINKTOBER(TM) Campaign to Benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation(R) Oscar(R) winner, two-time Grammy(R) winner, breast cancer survivor and multi-platinum recording artist Melissa Etheridge kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness Month and celebrated the launch of Hard Rock's month-long PINKTOBER(TM) breast cancer awareness program with an exclusive performance at Hard Rock Cafe New York and an unprecedented in-flight performance aboard Delta's signature pink plane.

The New York performance was broadcast live as part of the SIRIUS XM Artist Confidential music series on The Pulse, SIRIUS channel 12 and XM channel 26, --part of the two-day PINKTOBER launch. At the event, Melissa Etheridge performed her hit single "I Run for Life." Melissa Etheridge participated in a breast cancer awareness symposium at Hard Rock Cafe Washington, D.C. the following day.

The exclusive V.I.P. event kicked off with a pink carpet featuring special appearances by Melissa Etheridge and other program supporters.

Melissa Etheridge also introduced the limited-edition 2009 Hard Rock PINKTOBER Breast Cancer Awareness pin, keychain and T-shirt; a percentage of the sales will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, this year's PINKTOBER beneficiary.

Following the Times Square performance, Melissa Etheridge boarded a pink PINKTOBER tour bus to JFK Airport, where she joined Delta to light the JFK control tower pink and host a survivors flightMelissa Etheridge then boarded Delta's "pink plane," a pink-and-white Boeing 757, en route to Washington, D.C. where she performed an acoustic rendition of her hit single "I Run for Life" for breast cancer survivors and fans.
