France's Arts et Metiers ParisTech Engineers a Secure Multi-Campus Wi-Fi Network With Aruba Networks and Bluesafe

SUNNYVALE, CA, Sep 29, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced that the Arts et Metiers ParisTech (ex-ENSAM) has deployed Aruba's adaptive wireless solutions at its Aix-en-Provence, Angers, Bordeaux, Chalons-en-Champagne, Chambery, Cluny, Lille, Metz, Chalon-sur-Saone, and Paris campuses. Originally founded by the Duke of Rochefoucauld-Liancourt in 1780, the institution is one of France's ten most prestigious engineering schools and welcomes more than 4,500 students every year. The new wireless LAN links students, faculty, and staff members to network resources, and also provides guest Internet access to visitors. The multi-campus deployment was undertaken by Aruba partner and wireless LAN specialist, Bluesafe.

The new network enables users to move between Arts et Metiers ParisTech's campuses with the assurance that authentication and access rights will be consistently and uniformly applied regardless of how or where they access the wireless network. Aruba's policy enforcement firewall ensures that locally defined policies are enforced on a per-user, per-application basis at each campus. Additionally, the new Aruba networks interoperate with the Eduroam authentication service, a secure international roaming service for European research and educational institutions. The Eduroam network interconnects the RADIUS authentication servers of its member establishments both nationally and internationally, enabling traveling scholars to connect to the network of other member schools using their own identification information and without establishing a visitor account.

"We wanted to continue ensuring optimum security within our campuses and Aruba made this possible," said Sylvain Ricard, who heads up the school's wireless project. "Aruba's integrated ICSA-certified firewall implements and manages user profiles and access, while strong WPA2 encryption means that data are always secure. Of course, security is for naught if the network isn't reliable, and Aruba's adaptive Wi-Fi technology optimizes both client and network performance in real-time without any manual intervention by my team. No site surveys, no tweaking -- it just works. Bluesafe's applications expertise, and their willingness to address our specific deployment needs, made the commissioning process uneventful." Each campus is equipped with an Aruba Multi-Service Mobility Controller and wireless access points, while one smaller remote site is networked using Aruba's innovative Remote Access Point (RAP) technology. RAP is designed to deliver the campus network to remote locations, offering high security without the client management and administrative burdens typical of VPNs.

"Today it is a given that educational institutions need wireless networks, but as they have evolved into business-critical infrastructure a keen eye has been turned on the security and integrity of those networks," said Pascal Desaint, Aruba's General Manager for France and Southern Europe. "ENSAM's need for both an always-on wireless LAN and military-grade security is increasingly common, and Aruba has a very distinctive offering tailored to these requirements. That the solution is also very economical has made Aruba a leader in the education wireless LAN market in France and other countries." About Aruba Networks People move. Networks must follow. Aruba securely delivers networks to users, wherever they work or roam, using a combination of award-winning solutions: -- Adaptive 802.11n Wi-Fi networks optimize themselves to ensure that users are always within reach of mission-critical information. Rightsizing expensive wired LANs by replacing them with high-speed 802.11n Wi-Fi reduces both capital and operating expenses; -- Identity-based security assigns access policies to users, enforcing those policies whenever and wherever a network is accessed; -- Remote networking solutions for branch offices, fixed telecommuters, and satellite facilities ensures uninterrupted remote access to applications; -- Multi-vendor network management provides a single point of control while managing both legacy and new wireless networks from Aruba and its competitors.

The cost, convenience, and security benefits of our secure mobility solutions are fundamentally changing how and where we work. Listed on the NASDAQ and Russell 2000(R) Index, Aruba is based in Sunnyvale, California, and has operations throughout the Americas, Europe, Middle East, and Asia Pacific regions.
