Tellabs to Modernize US Army Base

Sep 01, 2009 (Zacks.com via COMTEX) -- Tellabs Inc. (TLAB) recently agreed to supply its secure and highly reliable 7100 Optical Transport System to the US Army. Leading defense contractor General Dynamics (GD) selected Tellabs' 7100 series transport level router. This system will be implemented between two largest army bases in the U.S. - White Sands Missile Range and Forte Bliss Range Complex. The deployment will be part of the U.S. Army's Installation Information Infrastructure Modernization Program.

Tellabs' Government System business provides converged advanced optical networking and services layer technologies onto one seamless platform. It operates with other government system integrators to reduce cost, complexity, space and power needs of telecom networks. Besides traditional telecom carriers, the company is expanding its market share among multi-service operators, particularly within the cable TV segment. Tellabs just received orders for its 7100 systems from two major cable TV operators.

The company has decided to substantially focus on the growth areas of mobile backhaul solutions, optical networking solutions and business services solutions. Mobile backhaul solutions will support massive demand for high-speed mobile Internet and video and enable telecom customers to smoothly transition to 3G or next-generation 4G networks. Optical networking solutions will help carriers to meet the growing demand for bandwidth for metro-Ethernet networks. Business services solutions, on the other hand, will serve large enterprises that need reliable multimedia services.
