Huawei selected to supply wireless infrastructure for Saudi Arabian research centre
(Corporate IT Update Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Telecoms network equipment provider Huawei has been selected to supply the wireless infrastructure for a new research centre at the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in Saudi Arabia.
Intel Corporation said that is has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Huawei for the supply of a 'state-of-the-art' solution, including base stations, access network gateway, authentication servers and other needed equipment and software for the centre, which will aim to use these equipment to showcase WiMAX technology, test interoperability and optimise network performance in order to guarantee effective operation of various client end-user devices on operators' WiMAX networks.
Spokesperson for Intel Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Highness Prince Dr. Turki bin Saud bin Mohammed Al Saud, said that the company hoped that the centre will actively contribute towards supporting wide use of WiMAX technology throughout the Middle East, Africa and Turkey.
No details of the value of the contract were disclosed.
