Tensilica's Xtensa DPUs integrated in TranSwitch's Atlanta 2000 processor family
(Telecomworldwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Tensilica Inc, a provider of customisable dataplane processors, announced on Tuesday (9 June) that TranSwitch Corporation (Nasdaq:TXCC), a provider of semiconductor solutions for the converging voice, data and video network, has integrated two Xtensa customisable Dataplane Processor Units (DPUs) into its Atlanta 2000 gigabit-rate communications processor product family.
Atlanta 2000 offers gateway routing, security and VoIP capabilities with high performance and power efficiency, enabling customers to develop the next generation of high-performance 'green' networking products and services for residential, small office/home office and small-to-medium-sized business CPE (customer premise equipment) applications.
According to the company, the Atlanta 2000 is an example of how Tensilica's customisable DPUs can be utilised as cores for embedded CPU applications. The company's FLIX (Flexible Length Instruction eXtensions) technology enabled TranSwitch to integrate two 3-issue VLIW (very long instruction word) CPUs, each capable of issuing three independent operations per cycle at a 400MHz clock rate equivalent to a 1.2GHz conventional scalar CPU.
