Velugu Television Network: Velugu Television Network Spreads Its Good Word In The UK

Brighton, UK, Jan 08, 2009 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) --
The Velugu Television Network (VTN), from the Indian Velugu Society for Spiritual Communications, has extended its broadcast reach into the UK with a bouquet of positive and family-friendly Christian programming, including preaching, teaching and music. Dedicated to wholesome and soul-searching content, VTN was launched by the registered, non-profit, Christian organisation in order to spread the Christian word to Indians in India and worldwide.

Israel R. Velugu, president and founder of the Velugu Society for Spiritual Communications, explains: "VTN is the result of many years of praying, planning and discerning how best to reach the fast-growing millions of people in the sub-continent of India. India contains more unreached people than any other nation in the world and there are so many linguistic groups who have never heard the name of Jesus."

Following partnership with other television ministries and Christian broadcasters, VTN has grown to both further the quality and content of religious broadcasting and also extend its geographical reach. Already proving popular in Europe and North America, VTN now joins the Global Digital Broadcast (GDBTV) IPTV platform for inclusion on GDBTV's own online Go TV UK portal and the Something TV UK set-top box service. Content on the channel is free to view, with 80% linear and 20% on demand.

VTN has been endorsed by a number of the world's reputed evangelists and features international presenters such as Pastor John Hagee; Rev. RRK Murthy; Rev. David Manuel; Dr. Brian Connor; Dr. Paul Evans; Bishop Gripson Thella; Rev. Vidya Narimalla; and Dr. Mike Murdoch.

Israel continues: "God is truly using VTN and IPTV to reach millions of people and the GDBTV platform is the most wonderful IPTV platform that I have come across, with easy-to-use middleware which is loaded with useful features and a robust delivery system. GDBTV provides professional and courteous services and the best technology ever designed."

According to the last UK National Census in April 2001*, there were 1,051,800 people of Indian origin in the UK. Hindus comprised 45% of this population, Sikhs 29%, Muslims 13% and Christians only 5%. The last 11% comprised of Jains, Parsis (Zoroastrians), Buddhists and those who stated no religion. 2005 estimates state 2.41% of England's population as being Indian (approximately 1,215,400) and, following continuous trend, this figure is likely to be over 1,600,000 Indian people in the UK today.

Tim Hart, head of software development at GDBTV, comments: "IPTV technology provides broadcasters with a massive geographical reach and is also perfect for niche programming, so our platform is perfectly suited to VTN. Israel is firing on all cylinders and religious programming is in demand all over the world, so we are sure VTN will go far."
