IBM Signs $5 Million IT Infrastructure Services Deal With Kotak

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BANGALORE, INDIA, January 5 / MARKET WIRE/ --

IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that it
has signed a US$5 million IT services agreement with Kotak Mahindra Bank
Limited (Kotak) -- one of India's leading banking & financial services
providers. IBM will design, build and maintain a highly scalable,
energy-efficient green data center as well as the converged IP network
infrastructure for the client. The solution being implemented by IBM will
also help Kotak save over US$1.2 million in operational efficiency and
reduced energy costs over the next five years. This implementation will
help Kotak move towards a shared technology infrastructure services model
across all its businesses. Kotak Mahindra Bank and all the group companies,
including Kotak Securities and Kotak Life Insurance, will benefit from this
consolidated data center and network infrastructure.

Vikram Sud, Group COO, Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited, speaking about the
shared Data Center implementation, said, "In our aspiration towards
building a world class, integrated banking and financial services
institution, we are rolling out several initiatives which include a shared
services utility model to leverage economies of scale and adopting more
environmentally friendly processes including the reuse of materials, waste
recycling and using renewable energy sources."

Commenting on the relationship with Kotak, Nipun Mehrotra, Vice President &
General Manager, Global Technology Services, IBM India/S Asia, said, "IBM
is committed to helping clients bring greater efficiency in their
operations by deploying solutions that can highly optimize their IT and
hence reduce costs. IBM has a unique value proposition to offer to clients
in these difficult times and we are excited about this partnership with
Kotak Mahindra Bank."

The two agreements, signed in September and October 2008, will help Kotak
further strengthen its position as one of the leading banking and financial
services provider in India. The 7,000 sq ft raised floor data center being
deployed for Kotak is one of the most energy-efficient in the country and
uses a chilled water-based cooling and an automatic floor pressurization
system.

To bring greater value to its customers, Kotak has been relying on
best-in-class technology solutions. They wanted to put in place a robust
network infrastructure and consolidate its distributed server rooms into
one centralized data center which is green and can scale up to the growing
needs of its group companies. The solution designed by IBM offers 100
percent concurrent maintainability in its power and cooling design and an
optimal uninterruptible power supply (UPS) configuration for energy
efficiency. IBM will also be deploying a new-generation switching
technology and IP convergence solution for over 3,000 users.

IBM continues to command a strong leadership in the data center space and
has built over 300,000 sq ft raised floor of data center space in the
country. The company has already deployed green data centers for over a
dozen clients in the country.
