BT Spain introduces Unified Communications service based on Nortel IP Powered Business
Nov 21, 2008 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) --
Communications solutions and services provider BT Spain has introduced
BT iComms, a new Unified Communications service based on IP Powered
Business communications solution from Nortel (NYSE:NT) (TSX:NT), a
communications technology company.
According to the company, the new carrier hosted business solution from
Nortel allows BT Spain to deliver Centrex IP and SIP multimedia
services to corporate customers and small to medium-sized businesses
(SMBs), enabling them to benefit from the latest communications
services without the need to invest in new infrastructure.
Nortel's SIP IP Powered Business Communication enables BT iComms to
offer services that combine traditional PBX services with new
multimedia services, including presence, instant messaging, video
calling and collaboration tools. New generation services are also
available for businesses, such as personal agent on the web with
advanced call routing, unified messaging capabilities and Wi-Fi access.
Nortel's VoIP infrastructure solutions, products and services deliver
carrier-grade telephony, data and multimedia services over
multi-service packet networks. The customised VoIP solution for BT
Spain is based on the Nortel Communication Server (CS) 2000, an IP
Multimedia softswitch that supports a voice and multimedia business
features with industry-standard VoIP protocols. Due to its
architecture, including consolidated local, tandem and long distance
capabilities, the solution enables BT Spain to transition to an IP
network required for hosting unified communications without needing to
invest in overlay solutions, the company said.
In addition, the solution includes customer premise equipment (CPE) for
end users, including Nortel SIP phones 1120E and 1140E and SIP PC
Clients, and provides the foundation for future support of fixed mobile
convergence and unified communication services.
Nortel Global Services has also provided deployment, integration and
configuration services for BT iComms.
