Symantec extends partnership with Dell

(Worldwide Computer Products News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Symantec Corp (Nasdaq:SYMC), a security technology company, announced
on Thursday (9 October) that it is expanding on its partnership with
Dell Inc (Nasdaq:DELL), an IT manufacturer and services company, to
deliver a factory-integrated solution that provides quick and
efficient, disk-based backup and recovery.

According to the company, the Dell PowerVault DL2000 backup-to-disk
appliance is a hardware and software data protection solution that
includes pre-installed Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 and custom disk
management features developed exclusively for Dell, allowing for easier
management of backup to disk environments from a single console.

The new appliance reportedly completes backup jobs 50% faster and
restores data 83% faster than tape. It incorporates Symantec's Granular
Recovery Technology to allow users to perform a single-pass,
application or system-level backup of Exchange, SharePoint, Active
Directory, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V and VMware ESX
environments, at the same time maintaining the ability to recover
individual objects, including files and folders. The technology
eliminates the additional time and storage requirements of a second
file-level backup, enabling efficient data protection and faster
restores.

PowerVault DL2000 powered by Backup Exec is expected to be available
globally later in October 2008. No pricing details were disclosed.
