Netronome Scales Security Appliance Performance to 10 Gbps With Intel(R) QuickAssist Technology

SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)-- Netronome, a leading developer of highly programmable semiconductors and acceleration cards that provide intelligent flow processing in networking and communications devices, today announced it will be demonstrating an unmodified version of an intrusion detection and prevention application (IPS) that scales in performance across several platforms from less than one Gbps, up to 10 Gbps, at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) taking place August 19-21, 2008 at Moscone Center West in San Francisco. The solution, powered by Intel(R) QuickAssist Technology, features Netronome's programmable, high-performance acceleration cards and the Intel(R) EP80579 Integrated Processor, can reduce design time, complexity and cost for application developers.

Manufacturers of network and security appliances require a family of products that range in price, performance, power and footprint to meet their users' needs. The ideal solution allows their application(s) to scale across diverse systems without modification. Many manufacturers have met their needs by choosing Intel(R) architecture (IA). By combining Intel architecture platforms and Intel QuickAssist Technology with Netronome's high-performance acceleration solutions for networking I/O and security functions, appliance manufacturers can now meet these requirements and scale their applications to 10 Gbps and beyond.

"Netronome's network flow processing solutions take full advantage of Intel QuickAssist Technology, to provide a seamless heterogeneous multi-core processing environment for network and security applications," said Jarrod Siket, senior vice president of marketing at Netronome. "Our solutions leverage Intel QuickAssist Technology and include acceleration APIs, the latest generation of PCIe and integration with Intel(R) QuickPath Interconnect in the future."

The Netronome demonstration at IDF will feature SNORT, a popular open-source intrusion detection and prevention application, to demonstrate performance scalability across the latest IA platforms, from the System on Chip (SoC) design of the Intel EP80579 Integrated Processor product line, up to the multi-core Intel(R) Xeon(R) processor-based systems including systems coupled with Netronome's acceleration hardware. The demonstration shows the security application scaling across this range of IA platforms, offering performance from 500 Mbps up to 10 Gbps.

"Intel's QuickAssist Technology eases the development process by enabling a single application to scale in performance across the family of Intel architecture products, including those coupled with external acceleration hardware," said Steve Price, marketing director, Intel Performance Products Division. "Netronome's demonstration shows that IA-based systems can reduce design time, complexity and cost of developing communications and networking systems."

Netronome's programmable, high-performance, acceleration solutions for security appliance manufacturers and ISVs are available now and are being demonstrated at IDF in two locations: Intel QuickAssist Technology Community, booth #139 and at Netronome's corporate booth #542.
