Extreme Engineering Solutions Introduces Industry-First VPX Single-Board Computer Based on Dual-Core MPC8572E Processor

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MIDDLETON, WI, July 21 / MARKET WIRE/ --

Extreme Engineering Solutions (X-ES)
introduces the XPedite5370, a new VITA 46 3U single-board computer based on
Freescale Semiconductor's MPC8572E PowerQUICC? III processor. In
addition to the MPC8572E dual-core processor, the XPedite5370 provides a
PMC/XMC site along with I/O interconnect supporting PCI Express, Serial
Rapid I/O, and Gigabit Ethernet. The XPedite5370 is available in
convection- or conduction-cooled configurations and is fully VPX-REDI (VITA
48) compliant.

Operating two e500 cores based on Power Architecture? technology up to
1.5 GHz, the XPedite5370 supports two separate DDR2-800 ECC SDRAM channels
with up to 2 GB per channel, plus up to 4 GB of NAND flash and 256 MB of
redundant NOR flash. High-bandwidth backplane fabric options include
support for PCI Express or Serial RapidIO Fat Pipe P1 interconnect, as well
as four SERDES Gigabit Ethernet Thin Pipe P1 fabric interconnects. The
XPedite5370 also supports dual Gigabit Ethernet, GPIO, I2C, PMC I/O, XMC
I/O, and up to two RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 serial ports through the P2
connector. A Wind River VxWorks Board Support Package (BSP), QNX Neutrino
BSP, Green Hills INTEGRITY BSP, and Linux 2.6 LSP are available.

"Freescale's advanced MPC8572E dual-core processor enables us to expand our
3U VPX product offering to give our customers the latest technology in a
low-power/high-performance form factor. We pride ourselves in being among
the first to make Freescale's dual-core MPC8572E device available in a
Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) product," stated X-ES CEO, Rob Scidmore.

"System designers targeting ruggedized, bandwidth-intensive applications
can now leverage the outstanding performance and protection of Extreme's
XPedite5370," said Richard Schnur, marketing manager with Freescale's
Networking Systems Division. "By providing the dual-core MPC8572E processor
in a small form-factor COTS product, X-ES is helping designers shorten
design cycle times while enhancing the performance of end devices with
highly integrated embedded solutions."
