Overture Networks Announces Infrastructure Alliance with Juniper Networks

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Overture Networks, a leading supplier of converged packet access platforms, today announced an infrastructure alliance partnership with Juniper Networks, Inc. for converged packet network solutions delivered through the Overture Networks ISG product family and Juniper Networks routing platforms.

As part of the J-Partner Solutions Alliance, Juniper Networks and Overture Networks have jointly developed solutions that enable the convergence of legacy voice and data networks onto a single packet infrastructure, resulting in immediate savings from diminished access and transport charges. The combination of Overture Networks patented pseudo-wire circuit emulation technology and Juniper Networks routing platforms, which deliver a full range of diverse IP services with industry-leading levels of security, reliability and performance, offers carriers and enterprises a best-of-breed solution. This solution enables providers to leverage their current and planned infrastructures to cost-effectively deliver voice and data services to consumers and enterprises, a fundamental step toward profitable service provider business models.
"Overture Networks understands the challenges faced by service providers who must both maintain current revenue streams and deliver new revenue- generating services," said Tony Scarfo, vice president of partner management at Juniper Networks. "Combining their leadership in pseudo-wire technology and their ability to deliver TDM services over a packet network to any location with Juniper Networks market-leading secure and assured networking solutions will enable customers to migrate towards a converged network efficiently and cost-effectively."
With the rapid uptake of Ethernet-based services and virtual private networks, carriers and enterprises are often forced to build overlay models, resulting in expensive duplication of equipment and transport circuits. The joint solution allows legacy TDM voice trunks and private-line traffic to be combined with newer packet-based services in a single architecture, simplifying the network and dramatically lowering costs.
"Because Overture Networks can combine toll-quality voice with data traffic on a single packetized link, and Juniper Networks is able to securely and efficiently route traffic across an IP/MPLS core, carriers gain a cost- efficient means to reduce the number of elements in their network," said Chip Redden, Overture Networks vice president of marketing and product management. "This paves the way for truly converged packet networks with Ethernet services and traditional services that can be extended to any size location, whether fiber- or copper-attached."
