Monitoring the Performance of your VCE Vblock as a Single Entity

TMCnet News

With this new module designed for Cisco, EMC (News - Alert), and VMware Cloud Computing offerings, APG discovers, models and monitors the end to-end dependencies across storage, servers, network and virtualization domains, managing Vblocks as a single entity. The new features allow APG user/operators to manage all of the constituent elements with Vblocks in one place via integrated console dashboards and reports. This capability is particularly important for the growing number of enterprises, governmental agencies and communications service providers who have chosen Vblock as a building block for next-generation data center and Cloud services architectures.

Converged infrastructure solutions are changing the way data centers are planned and built. Commonly referred to as “data center in a box” or “private Cloud in a box,” the primary advantage of these offerings is a significant reduction in the time required to design and deploy infrastructure.

The VCE Coalition, a collaboration of Cisco (News - Alert), EMC, and VMware, offers Vblock Infrastructure Packages, which are one of the fastest-growing and most well known examples of converged infrastructure solutions.Their combination of modularity and flexibility also make them an ideal platform for catalyzing the transition to internal and hosted Cloud services.A better approach is to employ management solutions that are tightly integrated to include and span all of the many technologies and components comprising the Vblock such as the APG solution, built on a scalable, flexible core architecture, which allows easy adaptation and rapid inclusion of new technologies to be managed.

Monitoring the performance of your Vblock as a single entity thanks to APG will help you gain business efficiency, control and adaptability. Indeed, APG collects data of the whole environment, to provide operations, engineering and management with tailored information dashboards, improving business services health and performance. The APG ReportPack for Vblock provides organizations with unified visibility into their data-centers, and covers a wide range of technology.

Watch4net’s strategy has been to use the APG platform to deliver unified health and performance monitoring across complex, multi-vendor, multi-service infrastructures, delivering both historical and real-time operational intelligence for optimal assurance and efficient operations workflows. The company recognized the opportunity to apply the power of the APG solution to the integrated management challenges of the Vblock, and has delivered an extension module supporting these new solutions via the ReportPack for Vblock. Capitalizing on the opportunity to converge operational monitoring, Watch4net may very well have been the first performance management tools provider to directly embrace the VCE Vblock.

This new ReportPack is testament to the flexibility of the APG solution platform as well as Watch4net’s focus on supporting the leading edge of IT technologies. From the perspective of completeness, depth of visibility, flexibility and breadth of coverage, Watch4net’s APG solution represents a mature and viable path to success.
