Brilliant Announces Availability of Network Monitoring Platform

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Brilliant (News - Alert) Telecommunications, Inc. is a global provider of next-generation packet-based network synchronization and network monitoring solutions. Recently, the company announced that SyncEMS is available instantly. It is a powerful, standards-based, unified management platform specifically designed to administer a network of IEEE (News - Alert) 1588-2008 (PTP) grandmasters, boundary clocks and slaves. SyncEMS provides an entire series of configuration and status monitoring of synchronization network elements. At the same time, it offers the vital performance management competence. This information can be used to proactively recognize, diagnose and find solution to problems before the synchronization network is impacted.

SyncEMS offers continuous network monitoring visibility by providing a topographic view of PTP devices and facilitating the administration of these devices. SyncEMS is developed using a distributed architecture. It serves as a combined platform for administration, provisioning, configuration and alarm monitoring of all PTP devices in the network. SyncEMS is developed as per the definition by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-T). It mainly supports Fault, Configuration, Accounting/Administration, Performance and Security (FCAPS) functionality.

Service Level Agreements (SLAs) is widely accepted by service providers to administer, measure and sustain the delivery of converged services to their subscribers. The capability to efficiently observe and measure service performance for delay, jitter and packet loss is a vital component of SLAs. In general, it is called as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). It offers real-time representation of the information in a clear and brief format. SyncEMS, along with Brilliant's TimeProbe agents embedded in the company's PTP devices, enables monitoring of these KPIs and allows service providers to administer and retain SLAs across their complete network for all of their services in an enhanced way.

In a release, Dr. Charles Barry who is the President of Brilliant Telecommunications (News - Alert) said that "Since synchronization directly affects network performance and Quality of Service for voice, video and data, it is paramount for service providers to be able to manage and monitor synchronization network elements. With Brilliant's SyncEMS management platform and TimeProbe agents, network operators now have an intuitive and user-friendly management platform that can monitor alarms, seamlessly and accurately report on the network's health and performance, and quickly change device configurations."

Brilliant Telecommunications designs, develops and distributes a family of network timing, management and synchronization solutions, including carrier-class NTP and PTP servers, Primary Reference Sources (PRS), and Building Integrated Timing Supplies (BITS).
