Network Management Made More Flexible by New VPN Router Computers

November 11, 2010

Korenix, a Beijer Electronics Group Company and manufacturer of industrial networking and computing products, announced the release of JetBox 9562 series Linux-based layer3 Virtual Private Network (VPN) platforms as an extension of its series of Embedded Vehicle PoE Router computers.

The new platforms are performance optimized embedded Linux computers designed for front-end industrial control applications. They are also capable of executing customized Linux programs, company officials said.

JetBox 9562 is designed with serial ports for providing flexible remote network management of serial devices via Ethernet in mobile applications. They feature 4LAN ports with the 12~24V booster PoE injectors as well as 1 WAN, 3 USB, 8DIO and console ports.

The computers feature 4 additional RS 232/422/485 ports, for providing connectivity to the access and security control devices, such as card readers, cameras, speakers, and more, according to company officials.

With their 12~24V booster technology, the 4 PoE ports are able to power up cameras in non standard locations, where 48V DC is not available, for example, vehicle applications, such as railcars, buses, and ships.

The embedded programmable platforms of JetBox 9562 provide mobile expansion through the miniPCIe and SIM slots in cases where wireless data transmission and GPS tracking are needed.

The layer3 routing enables JetBox 9562 series to manage extended network groups efficiently. This will be highly beneficial to IPC (News - Alert) providers because they can use the VPN and DMVPN functionality of the system to expand networking capabilities and reduce system costs by establishing long-distance and dynamic secure network connections over WAN, Korenix officials said.

JetBox 9562 series comes with a user-friendly web UI—Webmin for easily manipulating the network or device related settings. The Korenix Auto-Run customization setting on the SD card allows users to develop their own customized industrial control applications simplifying industrial network management easier and more flexible.

featuring a compact, rugged design with IP31 grade protection, -25~70oC wide temperature range and vibration / shock resistance, the RISC-based computers benefit users for building reliable and high performance large network infrastructures under toughest environmental conditions, the company claims.

Earlier this year, Korenix announced that its JetOS95 Embedded Linux Based operating system has been approved for IPv6 Ready Silver Mark – a certification led by China Telecom (News - Alert) Group.
